Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev Assasination Case


On Friday, February 6, 2026, Lieutenant General Vladimir Alexeyev, the First Deputy Head of Russia's GRU military intelligence, was shot several times in an assassination attempt in northwestern Moscow

Details of the Shooting
The Incident: Alexeyev was ambushed on the landing of a residential building on Volokolamskoye Highway as he was leaving for work.

Injuries: He sustained three bullet wounds to his chest, arm, and leg. After undergoing surgery and being placed in a medically induced coma, he regained consciousness on February 7 and is reported to be in stable but serious condition.

Weaponry: Investigators recovered a Makarov Pistol with a silencer at the scene. 

Suspects and Arrests
Russian authorities have identified three primary suspects, claiming the plot was orchestrated by Ukraine's SBU security service: 

Lyubomir Korba: The alleged shooter, a Ukrainian-born Russian citizen. He was arrested in Dubai and extradited to Russia on February 8.

Viktor Vasin: An alleged accomplice who was arrested in Moscow.
Zinaida Serebritskaya: Another suspected accomplice who reportedly fled to Ukraine

Political Context
Accusations: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov described the attack as a "terrorist act" intended to derail peace negotiations that had just concluded in Abu Dhabi.

Denials: Ukraine has denied involvement, suggesting the incident might be a result of internal Russian infighting.
Background: Alexeyev is a highly decorated officer but is also under Western sanctions for his alleged involvement in the 2018 Salisbury poisonings and 2016/2020 US election interference.
