The Incident
Casualties: At least nine people were killed (seven men and two women) and 10 others injured.

Method of Attack: Approximately 12 unidentified suspects arrived in two vehicles—a white minibus (kombi) and a silver sedan. They entered the tavern and opened fire "unprovoked" before continuing to shoot randomly at people fleeing in the streets.

Investigation and Context
Manhunt: The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched a massive manhunt for the suspects. Gauteng's Serious and Violent Crime Investigations and Crime Intelligence units are leading the search.

Motive: The motive for the attack remains unclear as of December 23, 2025.

Wider Violence: This is the second mass shooting at a South African bar in December 2025. Earlier this month, on December 6, gunmen killed 12 people (including a three-year-old child) at a hostel bar west of Pretoria

South Africa continues to grapple with high levels of gun violence, recording an average of 63 murders per day in 2025.
