Final Sarvarov Murder Case


Russian Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov was killed on Monday, December 22, 2025, in a car bombing in Moscow. The case is being investigated as a murder, with Russian authorities considering the possible involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. 

Key Details of the Incident
Victim: Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, 56, was the head of the Russian Armed Forces' Operational Training Directorate, a critical department for military planning and combat readiness.

Cause of Death: An explosive device planted under his car detonated as he was leaving a parking area in southern Moscow. He died from his injuries in the hospital.

Investigation: Russia's Investigative Committee has opened a murder inquiry and is exploring various theories, including the orchestration of the crime by Ukrainian intelligence services. Ukraine has not yet commented on the attack.

Context: This is the third killing of a senior Russian military officer by a car bomb in Moscow in the past year, following the deaths of Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov in December 2024 and Lt. Gen. Yaroslav Moskalik in April 2025.

Response: Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that President Vladimir Putin was immediately informed of Sarvarov's death. 
The case is ongoing and is being treated as a high-priority criminal investigation by Russian authorities.
