Brown University Shooting
A manhunt is currently underway for the single gunman responsible for a mass shooting at Brown University on Saturday, December 13, 2025, which killed two students and wounded nine others. Authorities are seeking public assistance with new video and photo evidence, and the FBI has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
Incident Details and Investigation
The shooting occurred around 4:00 p.m. in a first-floor classroom of the Barus and Holley engineering building during an economics final exam review session.
Victims: The two students killed were identified as 19-year-old sophomore Ella Cook of Alabama and 18-year-old freshman Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov of Virginia. Nine other students were injured, with one having been discharged and the others in stable or critical but stable condition as of the latest reports.
Suspect Status: A person of interest was detained the day after the shooting but was later released after ballistics evidence did not match the firearms found in his possession, leading investigators in a "different direction". The suspect remains at large, described by the FBI as a male, approximately 5'8" with a stocky build, last seen in all black clothing.
Police Response: Providence Police, assisted by the FBI and ATF, have released new surveillance videos and photos of the suspect from hours before the attack, urging residents and businesses to review doorbell or security camera footage for any details. Authorities believe the shooter "definitely targeted" Brown University, but are still investigating the specific motive.
Campus Impact
The university canceled all remaining in-person classes and exams for the fall semester and issued a shelter-in-place order which was later lifted. The campus community is in mourning, with many students shaken by the event, some having survived previous school shootings. Brown University is providing extensive support and resources to its students.
