Hathras Rape cum Murder Case

On 14 September,2020 a 19 years old girl was brutally assaulted and raped by 4 youths in her farm field in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. A week later she succumbed to her injuries. The crime bore a caste angle because the victim belonged to a lower caste and the culprits belonged to an upper caste Hindu castes. It is accused that because of this the police displayed liniencies in investigation, interrogation and detention.
The victim had given her statement before a magistrate before her death and she had named 4 culprits who had done this with her. Even then the police didn't arrest anybody after days had passed adter her death. It was also claimed by the family that she had been forcefully cremated in the dark of the night by the police secretly.
In her statement to the magistrate the victim accused 4 culprits Sandeep, Ramu, Lavkush and Ravi dragging her with her duppatta(scarf) tired against her neck very tightly. They pull and drag was so severe that it broke her spine chord and she was paralysed. They then took her to a secluded corner and took turns in raping her. They also cut her tongue. She claimed that they tried to kill her failing which they cut her tongue so that their identities isn't disclosed. Her mother ran to the spot after hearing her painful cries. She was immediately taken to the local police station and thereafter to a hospital.

    15-year-old boy has been detained in  Gujarat for the murder of his elder brother and his pregnant sister-in-law at their home in the  Khodiyar Ashram  in Shobhavadala village, Junagadh district in Gujarat.
