Military Ambushed in Poonxh

The ghastly attack on an Army truck in Poonch Thursday, 20 April,2023, which killed five soldiers, was an ambush orchestrated by a group of Pakistani terrorists who are believed to have carried out earlier attacks too, ThePrint has learnt.
Sources in the defence and security establishment told ThePrint that the truck was forced to stop because logs of wood placed on the road.
They said terrorists opened fire when two soldiers came down to remove the logs. One of the deceased soldiers was hit by multiple bullets, they said.
Sources said two grenade pins were recovered from the spot, which would mean at least two were thrown at the truck. It is, however, believed the truck caught fire due to the burst fuel tank.
Five soldiers who were killed in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch have been identified by the Indian Army.
The deceased soldiers were named as havildar Mandeep Singh, lance naik Debashish Baswal, lance naik Kulwant Singh, sepoy Harkrishan Singh and sepoy Sewak Singh, according to the Army's 16 Corps based in Nagrota.
"The Whitenight corps stand in solidarity with the bereaved families," it said on Twitter.
The soldiers belonged to the Indian Army's Rashtriya Rifles unit, and were stationed in the region for the purpose of conducting counterterrorist operations.
After their vehicle was fired upon by terrorists in the Rajouri sector of Jammu, five soldiers lost their lives and one was injured. Efforts were made to locate those responsible for the attack, but as of now, there is no clear information regarding the identity of the perpetrators.
However, top intelligence sources told  on Thursday that Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was behind the Poonch terror attack.
“This attack was done by Lashkar. This group is sitting in Rajouri and Poonch jungles for a period of time. They come out, commit the crime and go back to their places. Earlier, they also attacked a house in Rajouri," sources said.
Top intelligence sources have also said that linking the incident to the upcoming G20 summit, which is scheduled to be held in September, is not correct as the terror groups are “looking for an opportunity," the report added.
Army and police have launched massive search in and around the area for the fugitives. Further details and updated in the matter is awaited.
Reports suggest that steel core bullets were used in the ambush which pierce through the body of an army truck and armoured car. Reports also suggest that arms and ammunition left behind by the USA army in Afghanistan while leaving are now being deployed to these organisations.
