Bhatinda Catonement Firing
3-4 days ago on Wednesday two masked men in civil dress killed 4-5 military men in the wee hours at around 4:30 a.m. by opening fire with INSAS rifles and escaped. The rifles are reported to have gone missing on 9 April , 2023. Till now there isn't any trace of the culprits. It is strongly believed to be a case of fratricide by some disgruntled army men. 19 empty shells have been recovered from the crime scene. Sources of Punjab state police claim that the perpetrators are from inside the cantonement. Army chief will brief defence minister Rajnath Singh about the situation.
In the meantime there isn't any trace of the fugitive Amrit Pal Singh. It is still to be ascertained whether it was an inside job? Or infiltrators did the crime and escaped. However, Punjab SSP said that it wasn't a terrorist attack.
In a statement, Army’s South Western command said, “A search team has located the INSAS rifle along with the magazine. Army and Police Joint teams will now be undertaking forensic analysis of the weapon to ascertain further details. The balance number of rounds in the weapon will only be available after forensic analysis. A joint investigation with Punjab Police is in progress. All possible assistance is being provided. It is reiterated that no individual has been detained/apprehended.”
